We've been coming to Miyama for many years and continue to make the trek just for dinner here, celebratory or otherwise. The staff is friendly and very helpful. We had to stop coming for a while but even after that hiatus the staff recognized us as if we'd never stopped. The food is delicious and is always more than we can eat at the table but makes fantastic leftovers. And the flair of the chefs is great - they are always good at interacting with the kids. While there are other hibachi restaurants in Denver, we always come to Miyama for our celebrations. It's not quite as raucous and some of the others meaning you can actually have a conversation without yelling. The others are good, but the family atmosphere and great food make this an easy choice for us.

Miyama is a Japanese term that translates to "Beautiful Dense Mountain," which is very suiting for the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. When I travel, I routinely dine here, not only for its convenience but for its consistent good service and food. The founding chef and owner of Miyama, Seishi, has a long successful history being a sushi chef, including managing the first Chicago Benihana's restaurant. The restaurant is specious offering tepanyaki traditional dining area, sports bar and a sushi bar. I've been here several times and sat everywhere except for the sports bar. The interior is luxurious with extensive use of cherry mahogany. The tepanyaki area is segregated from the sushi bar and main dining area, isolating the tepanyaki craziness. The staff was always friendly and attentive. The tepanyaki was similar to Benihana's, but the jokes are different. Most visits I dined alone, so sitting at the sushi bar was my preference. The sushi was consistently very fresh and properly sized. The Rainbow Rolls were plump and delicious; the variety of fish was layered as I expect on a high quality Rainbow Roll. The nigiri was also very fresh with proportionally sized sashimi, which always blanketed the rice. For a different flavor, try the Kobe Roll, which has tender chunks of Kobe beef marinated with teriyaki sauce, a very different and tasty roll. I also enjoyed the complimentary cucumber sashimi starter salad, it was more balanced than others with less pickled flavor. I like this place enough to have dined here roughly dozen times in the fast few years; mostly because of its location, meaning, I wouldn't drive out of my way to dine here even though the food is consistently above average.

This was the worst service I think I've ever encountered. Our server was awful, most likely because she was already getting a 19% tip from us because we had a party of 6. She never filled up our waters, we had to get our own utensils, and when one person spilled his soup, she didn't offer any help or any more napkins to clean it up. The list goes on.. But most of all, we told 3 people we had a birthday in our party, and the procession of drums never came-but not to worry because they did show up for everyone else! How nice and special. When we complained to person in charge, she told us the manager was too busy to come and talk to us, and she gave us 1 coupon for our troubles. Big whoop. Never coming back, ever. Food wasn't too good either, and the only reason why I'm giving this place one star(mostly because you have to give a rating) but because the chef was great. He was very attentive and did tricks I had never seen before.

I've been here many times to enjoy sushi and snacks in the bar, but only recently dined at one of the hibachi tables. It was a special occasion for my hubby and we dined surrounded by friends. The show the chef put on was fun and you couldn't help be entertained by his skills and sense of humor. The food was all delicious. Yes, it's a bit pricy, but you get a lot of food for the price and they have a great variety of choices in a range of prices. For a delicious dinner and a fun show, it's worth every penny.

The expectations of great customer service to a Texan is totally lacking at this place!!! I cannot believe the unprofessionalism and POOR service we had with our waitress!! It was beyond unbelievable at a place with Amazing dishes! It's my first time in Denver! I chose to come eat here (first timer) based on high reviews about the food. The dishes we ordered was delicious and have not tasted anything like it Anywhere! I wish I can based my review solely on their food, but this review will simply be about their service!! The Football game was on and barely anyone in the section we were sitting in....she left to chat among her staff (loudly how tired she was and needed help). Pretty much she was horse playing with staff. She came back to the table acting decent, after I sat across watching her carry on...Before we left, we spoke to one of their managers about the incident. She didn't seem too sincere about it. She wanted to discount our bill, but said I wish I could discount your bill but you already got it. Hello?!? You still could have! It's ok! We are visitors and will not return...or recommend anyone to come here! Worst experience EVER!!!!

Miyama can't compete with the original. You know what I mean. You know exactly WHO. Tepanyaki is done right by the B only. Tonight we dined here and tonight I learned that I still prefer the only and only B because even the simple fried rice is way better there. My favorite shrimp is also so much tastier at the B. I don't remember the B slathering soy sauce on the shrimps either. Here they do. It gives that weird taste. Garlic butter is enough on those shrimps! Geez! Although the chef had some fresh jokes. Favorite joke? Egg roll ( he rolled an egg back and forth) lol! He also let a small amount of garlic butter fly and called it Butterfly! Cute! Now B needs these kind of fresh jokes! It's a very nice place. Very Colorado looking A-frame building. Warm and cozy inside. There is a bar as you walk in and a sushi chef busy making some delicious art. So next time I'll stick to the sushi bar.

Who doesn't love a good show with their dinner? Sitting at the teppanyaki tables and watching the chefs throw food in your tablemates' mouths and light stuff on fire is always fun. The food here is good quality with a price to match. There is something great about eating meat that someone has already cut for you to bite size. I also enjoy the fresh veggies they saute up to serve atop the freshly made fried rice. The dipping sauces for the meat and veggies are always tasty too! I just feel that when it's all said and done, it's just too pricey for the end result. The kids' meals are especially pricey averaging $12/ meal for a quantity of food that is more than the average child can eat- bonus, leftovers but I'd rather not. Definitely worth it once or twice a year for something different, but not high on my list overall. Not quite a 4 star for me. Service was decent with regard to drinks. Overall restaurant is spacious and clean.

The Benihana comparisons are inevitable-- this joint is better. An overall solid experience; it was a work luncheon, so I didn't get the authentic dining experience I might enjoy with she-beaux. If the service was a bit slow, it was because they were servin' 40+ fools, so I barely noticed. If you can request a cook, then def go for my man with the hat and and lapel collar covered in flames. He had a great sense of humor, and his timing with the jokes was on. Total improv expert. I can't get behind some jokes, though, and there's a super fascinating conversation to be had (but not here) about cultural relativism and whatnot, but basically... don't throw a metal bowl over the simmerin' noodles and call it a Mexican microwave-- especially when my man a few seats down may look like an 'ordinary white guy' but is, in fact, half-Mexican, fluently bilingual, his last name is Garcia, and he dedicates his life to increasing the quality of childcare in Colorado. It wasn't said in disrespect, and no one was offended (I guess?), but risk it for a cheap laugh? The only other standout moment was a brief tiff between two Miyama staff, one of those tiffs where you can tell they don't get along and may even passive-aggressively get at each other because THAT's how much they can't stand one another. It just brings a whole hypothetical narrative in that has nothing to do with enjoying meals or providing good customer service. An' I love that I'm the only fool who requested his steak rare and my man replies, "Rare-- good choice, sir" and moved on down the line.

I just had the best roll ever. They call it the Foreclosure. It is not cheap, $17.50, but it is great. Kobe beef and tempura shrimp. This thing just melts in your mouth. Wow, amazing. I have been to Miyama a couple of times now. I see many have commented on the hibachi. They do a nice job. I have never been a big fan, so I will leave it at that. I will definitely go back and have sushi and rolls. My son and I usually head over to this place on Bowles, it is less expensive. Not sure I can go back there now knowing my favorite roll ever is just down the street.

Huge inside. Went for a birthday party that took up two huge hibatchi tables. Servers kept everything together and didn't mess up. They charge 3$ extra for a side of fried rice, which isn't normal to me. I thought your fried rice was always included in the meal...it has been every other place I've been. They do not have Sweet Potato Tempura sushi. Which makes me sad. I had the Ocean or Seafood lovers hibatchi. It came with shrimp, scallops and calamari. The calamari was amazing. It wasn't rings or legs. It was just like calamari steaks. It was soooo good. I wish I knew where they bought their caamari like that. Overall pretty good.

We went here last night Thursday with a reservation for 6pm. The service & attentive staff were excellent! The presentation is a large part of what you pay for with the Japanese culinary art of cooking at the Tappan table. They seat 8 at a time & took our drink order quickly, then dinner order, and began serving soup, & salad, right after the drinks were served. I ordered Chicken Teriyaki $21 with fried rice ($3 extra per person )& my date ordered New York steak with lobster + the fried rice as well. Our food was delicious & we were completely full. Daigo was our chef & very entertaining as well as experienced. I would say it's a little high price $100 minimum for 2 adults so more for a special occasion for the average budget. We did have the $10 off $40 coupon which we used so that helped. They finally did take it off after the 3rd attempt to redo the check. We tipped a full 20% on the original total. Well, I will go again but would not recommend a Weekend night I can just imagine. Very loud & I'm sure a long wait as with most places in Lonetree /Highlands Ranch area.

The hibachi for lunch is perfect. Great sized servings at an affordable price. The o lay thing I wish had more flavor is the fried rice. A little more garlic butter and some sesame oil is all they need to make it perfect.

I wish Yelp lets us vote half stars, then I would give Miyama 4.5 stars. My meal was near perfection! The stand-alone building is spacious with a high ceiling, I think it instantly boosts the restaurant's class ranking. I like how they hang kimono's on the corners of each wall, giving off that authentic look. Lunch was open seating and we didn't know! So we waited until the staff was done singing and wishing happy birthday to a group sitting at the hibachi table. I thought that was sweet. The two of us just had a lunch special sushi roll and a bento box but each of us received a miso soup. It was very good, you could see cloudy miso in the soup! The scallion sprinkles were very fresh and so were the mushroom slices. The tofu squres were perfectly el dante, I enjoyed it very much! Our OSAKA LUNCH COMBO with Salmon included 4 pieces of California Roll (plump with crab salad, very good), 1 Salmon Nigiri and 1 Shrimp Nigiri, 3 pieces of Tuna Sashimi (some of the best and freshest I've had in a long time), and Tempura Vegetables (different but wonderful; the veggies were chopped up and batter fried, coated with a clear sweet & sour sauce, yummy). And the seared salmon was so worth it, the sauce was just right and the fillet not at all overcooked! Our sushi roll of choice was the Ultimate Roll: seared beef on top of lobster tempura roll. Because I've heard so much about Miyama's steak I decided this would be a good way to sample it before I return for a steak entree. They lived up to my expectation! The lightly seared, still rare underside steak pieces were juicy and flavorful (tip: dip in the tempura sauce mentioned above and it's an instant upgrade!). I thought the lobster tempura sushi was kind of bland and that's where I subtracted the half star from my rating. It did not taste like lobster and would be so much better if drizzled with some kind of sauce. Other than that, absolutely no complaint. The restrooms are spotless! You could tell someone was paid to maintain it as well as it is. I wouldn't be hesitant to have a party here. Look forward to coming back, maybe for Denver Restaurant Week? Yay!

I love tepanyaki. Sure, it can be gimmicky with the chefs waving around knives, eggs, and drumsticks, but I like to see what is going into my food. Miyama is a beautiful restaurant. We sat at the bar and had a drink first - a pear-a-tini for me, delicious, and friendly service. I had steak and lobster, and it was cooked just right. The fried rice was good, and the sauces were standard, but still delicious. This is a fun place for group dinners, or just an evening out with your favorite person.

We came in for lunch on a Thursday with a $30 Colorado's Best Deals coupon. I had made a reservation using Open Table. We didn't really need reservations for lunch, but I wanted the 100 points. They were located on Kimmer Dr behind Park Meadows Mall in Lone Tree. The decor was very elegant with Japanese kimonos, artwork, and decorations on the walls. In the lounge, they had high top bar tables and regular tables, but no booths. We ordered 4 sushi rolls once we got a paper sushi menu. The presentation was a little crowded on the platter, but I liked the way the sushi chef used green leaf lettuce sticking out of the rolls to add color and dimension. Spider Roll ($11): 6 pieces of tempura soft shell crab with veggies drizzled with eel sauce. The tempura soft shell crab was crispy with the legs sticking out of the roll. The seaweed was on the outside, Crunchy Roll ($10.25): 8 pieces of shrimp tempura, cucumber and avocado roll topped with tempura bits and a sweet savory sauce. The shrimp tempura was crispy with the tail on. Salmon Skin Roll ($5.75): 6 pieces of baked salmon skin with veggies drizzled with eel sauce and sprinkled with bonito flakes on top. My favorite roll and I would order this again. Philly Roll ($7.70): 8 pieces of smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber. My least favorite roll out of the 4 rolls. We will be back!

The good: 1. The food is awesome. 2. Diego is an amazing chef. Do yourself a favor and request him at your table. 3. The location is awesome. The bad: 1. Don't bother making a reservation. I never get seated any earlier than 20 minutes after my reservation time. I swear they just seat first come first serve. Super annoying when I take the time to make a reservation. 2. Sometimes you get stuck sitting at the table for forever waiting for them to fill it with guests. Extra annoying street I waited awhile to sit in the first place.

Pros: pretty restaurant. Service was good. Cons: food was just okay-- definitely underseasoned and not as good as other hibachi grills. "Entertainment" was more rushed than any other time I've seen. I'd recommend Benihana's for better food.

Waaaay overpriced for what you get. Paid about 120 bucks for two adults and 2 kids. For that kind of cash I expect the cook to juggle Ginzus while telling jokes and whipping up a mean meal. Nope. Didn't get that. The food was good but not spectacular. Decent hibachi fare. Seating was a little cramped. Decor was nice.

Really, this is closer to a 3.5 star review. A couple of us came here for dinner on Xmas Day. There are limited restaurant options in the south metro area, so it is nice that Miyama was open. We were about 15 minutes early for our reservation, so they had us wait. After 20 minutes they seated us. One of my least favorite things about teppanyaki restaurants is how many people they cram around the table/grill. Luckily, they put our party of three with a party of two. After no other group showed up right away, they let us spread out a bit. My take on the pricing is that there are some rather good deals if you are doing dinner for two. If you are a solo diner, the prices can run almost 50% higher, depending on what you order. I went for the "Samurai" (NY Steak, Chicken, and Shrimp). I upgraded to fried rice for $3 (although considering my meal selection was already $30, this seems like nickel and dime-ing to me). We started with a very nice miso soup. Usually I am indifferent to this soup, but I really enjoyed their version of it. The salad was nothing special, bagged salad mix with some ginger dressing. Soon our teppanyaki chef (Zac) came out and the show started. He did a very good job of cooking and entertaining (just as one expects at a place like this). I thought he might have overcooked the egg a bit in the fried rice, but that is a minor complaint. I liked what he did with the shrimp, chicken and steak. The food was good and the portions were generous. The service my group received from Zac was excellent. The larger party that came in later and was seated across from us did not have such a positive experience. They took a while to order, but after eating their soups and salads, I believe an hour passed, and they still did not have a chef even starting to cook for them. They were rather upset, and I cannot blame them. This did affect our group, in that in dealing with the other group, they seemed to have forgotten they had my credit card. After a too long wait, I chased it down at the front of the restaurant, paid, and left.

Initial service was terrible, and the food was mediocre--lacking in flavor. Serving size was small for the price we paid. However, our chef was personable and engaging. Probably will not return because we have been to better places.

$2 Tuesdays 4-7 pm and this is a great deal! I have only had sushi here and love their happy hour! I suggest sitting at the bar as the service can be faster here depending on the day/time and how many servers are on the floor. I have never had to wait for a table in the bar area and that is a plus too.

The bartenders Greg and Robert are incredible! We had a group of 16 people and no reservations. We piled around the bar and the fun began! I think we ordered about every kind of sushi on the menu... Yum! Fresh and tasty and super beautiful presentation! Next time you want a beautiful meal this is your place!

The saddest part about this review is that I have actually had better, at this same restaurant! I didn't have yelp at the time, but I was excited to attend this hibachi favorite with some friends. Upon arriving we were promptly seated. There were 4 of us in my party and we were seated with another party of 2. The other party was quiet and didn't participate much, but there isn't anything that can be done about that. A lady took our drink order and brought us salads. That same lady took our order at about 7:15 pm. At about 7:40, when the chef still hasn't came to prepare our food, she informed us that two of the chef's called out sick and that they have 2 on duty. She said that one would be with us shortly. At about 7:55 she came back to us, apologizing again for the length of our wait. At this point, one of my colleagues asks her if there is something that they can do for us in the form of a discount, for our long wait. She says that she will speak with the manager. She leaves and comes back and informs us that the manager will introduce himself to the table a bit later in the evening. After that, at about 8:10pm, our chef "Yo-Yo" showed up and almost made up for the entire wait that we endured! He was exciting, genuine, funny, and very fun. You could tell he was the best one they had. After our meal, a gentleman, (the same guy that delivered our drinks) walked up to our table and asked how everything was. We were all stuffing our faces, so we replied, "everything is good". At the end of our meal the waitress comes back and say's that the manager offered to comp a serving of mochi icecream for each of us. Mochi is on the menu for $3.75. The other thing is, with our "dinner for two" meal, icecream is INCLUDED in the price of $60! So for over an hour of waiting to even start watching our food be prepared, the manager offered to give us a dessert that amounted to less than 5% of the total bill? Not quite what I expected. Actually, it was quite the insult in my opinion. We made a reservation, were on time, and waited over an HOUR to eat! Needless to say, I don't plan on bringing any of my friends to Miyama any time soon. That will cost the establishment quite a bit more than $15.00 in complimentary desserts! In all fairness, the food was delicious and the chef was awesome. The fact that 2 chefs called in sick is rare, but the manager isn't good at assessing "perceived value" if you are disappointed in anything. More than likely, you will have a great experience here, mine just was not.

This is not your 'run of the mill' sushi joint' its a step up. I found the food to be good and authentically Japanese, ample portions and good flavors all a round. I would return to Miyama when given to opportunity next time.

Please do not spend your hard earned money at this poor excuse for a Japanese Steak House!!! The poor reviews on this site are true and you would be better off going to Benihana or PF Changs at Park Meadows Mall. Stay away from this dump, they do not respect your reservations and if you complain or say something to management, they tell you to hit the road.

Not impressed. Went for a later dinner on a weeknight. We had steak, scallops, appetizer, and sushi. Everything was way overpriced and horribly under-seasoned. The steak was bland and tough for a ribeye, the scallops were oddly flavored with too much lemon juice. They got my sushi order incorrect, but fixed it. The sushi was just ok. I wasn't impressed with the big leaf of lettuce sticking out of my spider roll. I had to remove it to eat it, which pulled apart the roll. The soft shell crab appetizer was tasty but was too small and could have used a different type of sauce instead of ponzu. The entertainment was even lamer than the standard Japanese steakhouse antics. The chef was very soft-spoken when going through the motions and lazily did his act which was missing some of the usual script they do at these places. He was quite vocal and fluent in Spanish, however, and seemed to be more interested in conversing with his amigo bussing tables than providing entertainment for guests. So dinner, appetizer, and a little sushi was $120 for two. The dog enjoyed the leftovers.

This place is really more of a 4.5 but I will go ahead and rate it 5 due to the valentines day accommodations. We came here for dinner with no reservations on the biggest dinner date day of the year. We were seated in less than 5 minutes at the hibachi. We got lucky and were seated next to some very nice people. The chefs here are more skilled than in other places like Benihana in the art of flare. They were very entertaining and impressive. We ordered the valentine special which included Strip, Chicken, and Lobster. We also added Scallops. The fried rice was excellent and so was the strip. Very tender and cooked perfect. The chick was typical Japanese steakhouse chicken. It was very dry with little flavor. The lobster was a little overcooked and the scallops were good. The service was excellent. This place saved our valentines night. The price was also on par with what you get.

We went here for our team holiday outing, opting for the teppanyaki (hibachi) grill. They do have a large dining room too, with just tables if you would rather skip the grill. Miyama is a nice big restaurant with plenty of room for big parties. It is located back behind Park Meadows. The hibachi was enjoyable. Our chef was personable and played up the dicing and knife throwing. It was an entertaining lunch and a fun spot for a team event. Most the team had seafood and liked it. I opted for the Chicken Teriyaki. It was all healthy and light. I also recommend the potstickers, which were bursting with flavor. The price was reasonable and it was a nice spot for that special event. I would recommend and will go back! If you are gluten free you can let them know and they will be sure to do your items separately and get you gluten free soy.

I went there for lunch and ordered the bento box. It was suppose to be steak, 4 piece CA roll, 1 salmon sushi, 1 shrimp sushi, tuna sashimi and vegetable tempura. When it arrived it had some big chunks of zucchini tempura with a chili sauce. I told the waiter that I was suppose to get vegetable tempura. He said that they didn't have a cook in the kitchen and that the teppan chef made it. He went back to the kitchen to get an order of vegetable tempura and came back within minutes with some vegetable tempura that was stone cold and very doughy & greasy! Our waiter was very good and the sushi was good. They definitely need to pay more attention to what is being served, especially at their expensive prices!

I have been dining at this restaurant for about four years with my family and it is always excellent. The food is great, along with the service. I am always greeted when I enter and food is served in a timely fashion. The staff is friendly, especially Erni. She is FANTASTIC and always makes sure to make our experience a pleasant one.

Wow! Amazing service from Andrew at the bar, amazing sushi, and I have super high standards for it. This was such an amazing experience in all areas of service, food, and atmosphere. The food came out quick, which was good because I was starving and craving sushi. And Andrew had suggested us some drinks from a new vodka they had in stock and made us both an amazing drink. I had a cucumber mojito, omg!!! I love cucumber but not a fan of vodka, and this was amazing! Thank you Andrew for giving us both an amazing date night.

We hosted a happy hour on Sept 27, 2012 for 15 people. Forgive me for being so late in the review. We wanted a quiet upscale restaurant for happy hour, after visiting and sampling several restaurants(5) in the Lone Tree area, we decided this was the best choice for our happy hour. We haven't tried the lunch or dinner there. The entrance is very welcoming and you sit in the front sunken bar area for happy hour. It's not a noisy place where you can't have a conversation, rather it's perfect for conversation, and has a nice casual sophisticated ambiance with their huge fireplace in the sunken bar area. Their Happy Hour sushi/sashimi menu was plentiful and with good variety. The server was very attentive and made sure everyone had a good time. Unfortunately due to the late review (3 months later) I can't be as specific about the dishes offered. However when I go back I will elaborate on this review. If you are looking for a quiet upscale place for happy hour, this will fit your requirements.

We decided to try out this place finally. We are fans of Japanese steakhouses, but we usually end up going to Benihana's. This is a lot closer to our house, so we finally decided to give it a try. My first impressions weren't great. We got there right before 6, and they said the wait to sit on the teppan side would be nearly 30 minutes. This wasn't because they were busy, but rather it appeared only 1 chef was cooking on that side. Considering that is part of the allure of a Japanese steakhouse and they open at 4PM, this seemed really odd. They said feel free to sit on the other side and enjoy the lower prices! We seated ourselves, and waited. And then we waited some more. It appeared there was only one waitress, and a couple of other people helping bring out food. Again, at 6PM this was odd. I don't know if they are always understaffed or maybe they had something going on tonight. Anyways, we eventually got menus and were able to order. It wasn't until later we realized we were given the teppan menus, so we didn't get the lower prices of sitting in the lounge. At one point our waitress did apologize and tell us the food would be out shortly. Once we got our food, we all really enjoyed it. Everything was cooked just right. The sauces were okay. My favorite was the mustard sauce, but it was a tad too spicy. All in all I would say the food was really good here. We probably will dine here again once in a blue moon. If we are spending this much money, there are better alternatives. That said, it was really good and we enjoyed the experience. If we had been in a rush, then the long wait would have probably put us off more. We're hoping this was just a bad night and their service is normally faster.

I travel a fair amount and always enjoy going to Japanese hibachi places. This was my first time to Miyama's. It has great atmosphere. The menu selection was great. The food was very good. The service was excellent. Put this on your list of places to try, you won't be disappointed and is fun.

We had dinner Saturday evening to celebrate my daughter-in-laws birthday. We were 4 adults and 2 kids (ages 9 and 7). Everyone had a wonderful experience!! Our chef was great - lots of fun banter and he really paid attention to the kids. Our food was excellent - a variety of choices between us including steak, various fish and chicken. The servings were very generous! Had a $10 coupon from a "Clipper magazine" and we used it with no problems. We will definitely go there again. The server who took our orders and kept our drinks refilled was efficient and personable. Their rendition of "Happy Birthday" was hilarious! Good job all the way around!

Ok ok ok ok! Honest review. Came here for Valentines 2/14/14 at about 9:20. I was seated by 9:30. Server was kinda pushy about the order but I'll overlook that because the chef was awesome. I had the NY Strip and Prawn. Steak WELL DONE (sue me) perfectly seasoned and still juicy. Prawns were seasoned (not to my liking but nothing a little soy sauce can't fix) Had the fried rice FANTASTIC. Veggies were cooked but crisp and chewy at the same time. Soup was ok. (didn't like the fact that they put tofu at the bottom YUCK) and a lot of at that. 1. I DONT LIKE TOFU 2. I'm not a damn vegetarian and I just ordered steak and shrimp. Chef did an AWESOME presentation even let me play with the eggs (wait what) haha. Now back to the waiter- not that she was rude but sheesh i would like an opportunity to finish my food before you come snatching my damn sauce plate up. I looked away for 1 min and it was gone and everyone's plate was gone and she was asking if I wanted desert. @/!@:&.)?-? I WANT TO FINISH WHATS ON MY DAMN PLATE. next the price- pretty standard hibachi grill prices except if you don't order 2 separate dinner meal they charge 8 bucks for soup and salad. (Salad was awesome by the way.) we'll hope you enjoyed this review.

Don't waste your time. We went tonight for my son's 15th birthday. Everything started out okay. Sushi was good. The hibachi chef was nice, however, he asked if someone was celebrating a birthday - advised him my son was (we were expecting someone to sing at the end - never happened). The Onion volcano fell apart very lame, he didn't do the shrimp trick to pop into guest mouths - entertainment was very lame, usually there is lots of fire and oohing and aahing, nothing, we kept watching the other tables with envy. He also kept forgetting what everyone ordered or already had, despite have a note right next to him. Also the fried rice was very bland, the steak was not marinated, the chicken tougher than soles of my shoes. Very budget for the price. We chose to go there because we went there a few years ago and thought we liked it better than the one near our house. Mistake!!!

The nigiri is hit or miss. The tuna tataki roll is one of the best rolls I've had in terms of flavor and texture. Try the brain damage roll as well, very spicy but no nasty creamy mayo sauce. The spicy sauce is wasabi based and quite good. Not the best sushi I've ever had, but certainly the best in this particular area if you have a sushi craving.

Service was good, however, the food left 3 of our party's 5 sick. Soup, salad, and meat were subpar but maybe we've just been spoiled by Benihana.

Celebrated my niece's 17th birthday here. The restaurant has ample parking. The maitre'd was friendly and led us to our table immediately upon arrival without a reservation on a Wednesday night. You can either sit in the bar area or around the hibachi style tables. We ordered from the sushi menu and from the menu that offers dishes to be cooked by a server/performer at your table. The experience was fun and the server was entertaining and talented! The sushi dishes we ordered were tasty, and the people who had salmon and chicken cooked at the table were satisfied with their food. The food was nothing to write home about. However, the whole experience was fun and would probably go again for a special occasion that didn't warrant gourmet food!

I enjoy tepanyaki. The mixture of good food and fun atmosphere is always an enjoyable adventure. Unfortunately, "fun" and "enjoyable" are not even remotely what I would use to describe this pitiful excuse of a restaurant (which should be avoided like mad cow disease, which I'm sure I'll contract from the mystery butter-substitute they use to cook our food). I want to focus this review on the most egregious part of our experience: the pitiful and juvenile service (the bland, overly oily, and generally tasteless food could use its own review). Three distinct experiences stand out in my mind: #1. My dad ordered a fairly complex drink (Bombay gin martini on the rocks, dry, with three olives). The waitress blew out a rather long breath, looked my dad square in the face, and said "We'll see if I remember that.". Of course, she didn't; within two minutes, she was back at the table, asking my dad to repeat the order. #2. My girlfriend has allergies to corn and soy products and at one point, we asked the waitress if the green tea ice cream had corn or soy products in it. She backed away, raised her hands (similar to how a defensive back in football might if he were trying to avoid a particularly nasty penalty), and said "I have no idea.". I looked at her and assertively asked if she would please check, whereupon she gave me an incredulous look, whimpered "Okay..." and skulked off. #3. At the end of this nightmarish experience, the waitress came up and tossed the bill on the table with a casual "Here you go" and turned away without another word. I was stunned to find that with a party of 6, 20% gratuity had automatically been added. I wanted to put "-$50" for a tip, but as I'm not sure of the legality of that maneuver, I settled for leaving this deathtrap. If I could virtually get on my knees and beg, I would beg you to spare yourself from this overpriced, taste-bud-destroying establishment...unless, of course, you'd like a first-hand lesson in terrible service. Please, everyone - stay the heck away.

The food, service and restaurant was very good. But I'm annoyed that they wanted to charge $3 extra for fried rice! Aside from that, great place! I especially liked our servers. Very friendly!

We had an amazing meal for my son's graduation! My fillet was cooked perfectly and I would highly recommend choosing the fried rice (it was excellent)! This place is tons of fun and great for any special occasion! The hostess greeted us immediately and was very friendly. She seated us immediately without reservations. Our Chef "Yo-Yo" was OK but, our waiter was amazing! He was very friendly and always made sure we had everything we needed. Sometimes when you go to Teppanyaki you never see your server again after you place your order. This was never the case with ours at Miyama's! Our drinks were never even close to being empty! I would highly recommend that you ask for "Nathan" as your server... You'll have a lot of fun! Overall, this restaurant gets an A+! Thanks for making my son's graduation celebration so much fun!

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE. Stay away!! If you want hibachi style Japanese food go to Benihannas. Not Miyama. First, the service is terrible. We had a reservation for 8:00, at 8:30 we learned that we would be seated at 9:00, which was pushed back to 9:15. For this inconvenience, we didn't even get an apology! Then the chef forgot one of our entrees. Totally forgot it. Made everyone's entrees - then noticed he was missing a meal. Come on, this is not rocket science. And again, no apology. Second, the food is not that good. The shrimps are tiny and the steak is bland. The chicken was ok, but it was drenched in teriyaki sauce. Also, the salad was terrible. Like the lettuce was frozen for months. Third, the food is overpriced. I know it is an "experience." to have someone cook at the table and little kids love it. But for crappy food, the bill should not be over $70 per person. I STRONGLY recommend going somewhere else - your time and money could be better spent. .

I probably eat lunch here once a quarter with business associates. My family frequents on about the same schedule for dinner. We celebrated my son's birthday here the other night. He really loves the performance put on by the chef at the grill. The food is pretty good and we've tried about everything on the menu. Pretty pricey but if this bothers you, you probably eat at McDonald's on a regular basis so i discount your opinion anyway. The sushi is fine and happy hour is usually pretty busy. Don't wear your finest clothes if you sit by the grill as you may get some spatter from the chef. I like this place better than Benihana's.

Great spot for a group event.....! The Teppan Chef was amazing...he had lots of new fun food tricks and really seemed to enjoy entertaining us? The food was yummy and a good value for all that you get. However, I ignored the comments about the fried rice not being good on other yelp reviews.... and it's true - the fried rice is swimming in butter and I wish I would have just had steamed rice. We also had some sushi and enjoyed it!!! -- I would like to come back here for a happy hour!

Ignore the obnoxious Teppanyaki tables and head straight for the sushi bar. Tell JP (the great WASP sushi chef formerly of Sushi Den) how much you want to spend on "omekase" (chef's recomendation) &let him go to work. Best, most authentic sushi I have ever had... And I have been all over Japan. Great service from JP's Japanese wife (who speaks English with no accent and is as smart and lovely as the food.

Good food and great for the kids. This place is your typical Benihana, even though it is not Benihana. Benihana is much better. This food is good, not great. I think many people, my wife included, skips to the expensive steak and shrimp, try the chicken. They marinate it in a non-traditional sauce, very tasty and the cheapest thing on the menu. Of course you get everything else-salad, soup so you are more than full when you leave. Salad dressing disappoints as well as the fried rice.

The food was over priced and the service was horrible. This was the email I sent to the manager the day after eating here... I wanted to share with someone in management an experience we had at your restaurant last night. After we sat at the table we waited 45 minutes for our drink order. It was another 20 minutes before the server came in to take our dinner order and by then she was acting incredibly rude and impatient. Every time the server came in she would snap at people if they didn't tell her what they wanted quick enough or if she didn't understand what they said. I was shocked. On top of everything else she overcharged at least two of us. I asked her for the detailed copy of my receipt back with my credit card slip and she never returned, but I know I was overcharged. I even checked your menu online this morning to double check. I have never gone back to a restaurant to complain, but the incredibly long wait, the rude server, and being overcharged are completely unacceptable. I sincerely hope this isn't how you usually conduct business.

I found this restaurant quite by accident when I made a wrong turn off Park Meadows Drive. But as soon as I saw the words "Japanese Steakhouse," the promise of a new place for sushi emerged. Miyama is a sushi bar, a teppan restaurant, and a sit down Japanese fare restaurant all in one. As I have not had teppan, let me stick to the other two. First, the sushi ... I can't say what it is, but there is something a bit unique about the sushi rice at Miyama. Less vinegar, perhaps? The restaurant has less types of rolls than some of its competition, but the selection is all right. What really caught me, though, was the yellowtail appetizer. It comes with thin jalapeño slices and a nice soy vinaigrette. I've also sampled a piece of white tuna prepared with what I believe is an onion vinaigrette that, according to one bartender, can be ordered instead of the yellowtail. The quality of the fish and the skill in the slicing of it is what elevates this appetizer. To the sit down menu ... the standout to me is the Buffalo calamari. Yes, you read calamari. The Buffalo calamari is not the sissy thin cut rings seen at most establishments, but rather a thick steak cut into generous pieces, coated and fried, and lightly tossed in a sweet chili sauce. The result is a bite that is not only crisp beneath the sauce, but most crucial with calamari, not overcooked. You might miss the blue cheese dressing here, but I sure didn't. Avoid the house salad, though. While the thin ginger dressing is pleasant, there seems to be a habit of putting 3-4 tablespoons on the lettuce/carrot salad. It's the only truly poor dish I've had at Miyama.

What's with all the butter! Even in the fried rice? Come on, really... I know they are trying to accommodate the western pallet but.. EASY on the butter. One thing I hate is when ethnic restaurants down play their food to 'americanize' it. If I wanted over buttery american food I would go to Chilli's or Outback. Traditional hibachi is delicious and can be healthy too. Miyama, quit listening to Paula Deen, It's not always better with butter. Miyama puts on a good show... but the food ? Hope you don't have a cholesterol problem. You definitely will after you eat there.

Location: The inside of this place is very large and open with high ceilings in the main room. The decor looks great and highlights the place nicely. Tables are definitely spread out in this place, so no worries about bumping into people or overhearing any major conversations. Food: I've really only ordered the sushi here, so I cannot review the Hibatchi, although it is avail. As for the sushi, its definitely better than Sonodas, but doesnt quite meet the Sushi Den standards. They do have a happy hour that comes with smaller pieces and the price is definitely right if your after sushi. I enjoyed the food, but just couldnt say that it outdid Sushi Den, but can say that if you cant make it downtown and you live close to Park Meadows, this is a really good alternative. Presentation: The food comes out completely decorated to show that this place definitely cares about how their food looks. Everything matches, and very neat and orderly. Service: The service is good, although you will feel rushed a little since they stop by constantly and ask how things are. I think its expected by the management there, and it would be in their best interests to back off just a little so that customers can enjoy themselves. Beyond that, the staff is friendly and very quick to get you anything you need. Atmosphere: The vibe here is slightly quieter than most other Sushi places. With the tables so far apart you can really enjoy the conversation and whatnot of your group rather than the people around you. The lighting is dimmed to help the ambience and there is a never ending supply of drinks available from the bar which takes up a large side of the front room. This place could be used for nice little quick/quiet evenings. My Final Opinion: Great location, good atmosphere, the service is OK with some nagging from time to time, and the food is good for what it is. Its no Sushi Den, but for this side of town, and the price, you cant go wrong here.

Here's a shocker-- someone's celebrating a birthday during your visit to Miyama Steakhouse. Sort'a continuing in the tradition of DTC's long and forgotten "Gasho", Miyama blows the pants off of Benihana and is actually affordable. Benihana is overpriced and has all the appeal of a Denny's, once you're inside. But a more intimate decor and environment combined with delectable entrees plus a great selection of sake and sushi makes Miyama a premier Japanese steakhouse. Like all hibachi/Japanese steakhouses, you get a little bit of a show at your meal. The chefs have their routine pretty much down pat (onion volcano, choo-choo gimmick, tossing the egg into their hat, etc), but they still manage to make it personal. It might be a common occurrence, but our chef had some fun with the leftovers and invited everyone at the table to open their mouth and try to catch a piece of shrimp on-the-fly. Throughout the meal/show, the waitstaff would manage to come by to fill up our drink orders, remove empty plates and make sure we were satisfied. For entrees, the steak is always good, but I'd recommend the chicken and/or prawns. Also, you're doing yourself an injustice if you don't order the fried rice. You don't need a special occasion to visit Miyama--try it for a typical date night or a night out. Yet you'll leave feeling like it was a special occasion.

We went here on Saturday night for a birthday party with about 12 of us. Because it is the type of restaurant it is you need to make sure your entire party is on time because they can't/won't seat you until the entire party arrives. I know this is typical policy for many restaurants, but in this case it actually makes sense since they prepare your food in front of you. However the bar area is very nice too while you wait. The staff was very friendly and the food was very good, probably a bit overpriced, but it makes up for it in atmosphere. We had 2 chefs at our table and both were very friendly and didn't try to overdo the flair. The manager came out with several staff for the typical birthday singing, but also brought s small silk purse as a gift, which was pretty cool. Like I said before though, the place is a bit pricey, but we had coupons for $10 off each, so everyone at the table got $10 off. We kinda figured it would be $10 off the entire bill, but no, it was for each which made it much more affordable. Still with 2 of us, our bill was over $100 including an appetizer (good, but unnecessary) and 3 drinks (really 2, but 1 was the Volcano, built for 2) and the 19% gratuity included for parties of 6 or more.

As a long time customer(ever since week 1) I think I have the right to post this: So the place is like a Japanese museum (it's spacious, pretty, etc - just not enough light but cozy, especially in the winters as they do have nice fire place). The full bar is well stocked and has some of the friendliest bar tenders in the biz. So let's talk sushi (we never tried the Teppan) - a few years back this place was great, would experiment with new fish from Japan, have cool specials and the sushi chefs had the tools to come up with omakase. The economy has changed and so has this place, the sushi is still decent and is well done but can I honestly say this is the place .... not anymore. I would still recommend it for a typical sushi customer - it is GOOD but for a sushi regular it simply does not cut it. The service is OK (sushi bar is the best place in the house or you will wait) plus for a large party (over 6 people) in my opinion this is not the place. In conclusion: it is still a better than average place as the food / sushi bar produces a good product but it is nothing to rave about anymore. Off note the sushi chefs will still do omakase unlike Sushi Sasa that requests that 24 hours is given to the chef to prepare .... (in my opinon that is not the way but hey, I am just a lonely sushi patron with over 16 years of sushi eating experience all over the world) With that in mind - Kampai! :)

This is my family's favorite place to eat (and that's with a 10 year old and an 8 year old). I consider myself quite experienced when it comes to Teppanyaki dining. I came from CA where we went to Benihana's quite frequently and when in Palm Springs, we would visit the Kobe Steak House in Rancho Mirage (very upscale). Imagine our surprise to learn the owner of Miyama's was the manager of the Kobe Steak House in Rancho Mirage for 27 years! Seishi is at the restaurant all the time (every time we have been there) and personally visits each table. The food is excellent and we always leave stuffed to the gills!

The wife and I decided to check out Miyama based off a local highlands ranch TV show interview program. It looked like south Denver had some dining that may be worth while........ When we arrived the the hostess asked us where we would like to sit. Since it was our first time we were unsure and the poor girl looked at us like we were idiots for not knowing. Luckily the floor manager was right behind her and understood our plight of being newbies to Miyama of Lone Tree. He explained the more intimate sushi bar room and the more festive hibachi grill table rooms. Since we came for the Hibachi we took the manager up on the later. The seating was really tight and we practically sat on top of another family. Luckily they were from kickassville and we had a ball with them. Apparently Betty fabulous, our table neighbor had asked to split an entree with her daughter and the waitress said that will be $8 dollars.........wtf is that BS. That was a quote from Betty fabulous, our table neighbor and senior of 40 years. To get charged for splitting a plate is the most absurd thing I have ever heard , especially because of the following factors. Our chef was a turd bag. He tried to be flashy with his table grilling cutlery but really almost burned the eyebrows off himself so the only remaining fixture on his face would have been this eyebrow piercing. I digress, I asked for my steak medium it came out well, the wife and my table neighbors asked for rare, it cam out well also. When you throw down 29 a plate for the love of god, cook the flipping steak right. At any rate the sushi appetizers were very fresh tasting and yum yummy. I would go back for the sushi. Rolls can be deceiving regarding sushi quality. The miso soup was very good, so was the salad. If you order fry rice you get an extra $3.00 charge per plate, sweet. The interior was pretty nice, the atmosphere was empty. I guess south Denver's economy is hurting more than I knew since the place was empty by 8:00pm. Between the wife and I we spent $100 and she only had two glasses of wine. Overpriced, bad hibachi chef, hostess with chopsticks stuck in her butt......I think the food overall was tasty except for the steak mishap. I think if they hired better help the place would be really nice. Friday night should be the best foot forward for a restaurant but I didn't think that was what was happening. If you want to impress your date from the suburbs this might do it. If you are accustom to the finer restaurants of Downtown then save the gas and stay downtown.

I've never tried the sushi bar here, but I've done the teppanyaki several times now.. I have yet to be disappointed with this place. Our servers have always been quite polite to myself and my family (including 3 yr-old son). The table chefs always put on a nice show, including paying extra attention to any kids at the table (making smiley faces with hot oil, tossing shrimp into their mouths, and turning the 'onion volcano' into a 'choo choo' train). My favorite is the steak and lobster combo, although everything else I've had there (prawns, scallops, chicken) has also been excellent. Oh, and if you mention that you have a food allergy (such as shellfish), they go out of their way to make sure you're taken care of.

We love this restaurant. We feel it is much cleaner/newer than Bennihanas. All of the staff is exceptional and attentive. Food is very fresh. Very special place to take the kids...they love it. Salad? just ok Sushi? very expensive Dessert? why can't they do dessert on the hibachi? Firecracker Edamame? don't do it (plain is better) Price? you get what you pay for.

I love this place for what I think is its best-kept secret: The happy hour. The happy hour runs from I believe 4-6 pm seven days a week and a lot of the sushi is almost half-off, which is a real bargain. They also have some drink specials such as the raspberry-peach cosmo - a steal at around $5.00 (and a delicious one at that). The buffalo calamari is to die for - it's not your typical rubbery calamari. It's actual calamari steak and it's flavorful and tender. The California rolls are also wonderful, as are the Crispy rolls. My husband absolutely loves their sushi here, as well. I can't remember the bartender's name, but there is a wonderful gentleman who is typically tending bar when we've gone here. He is always personable and is very knowledgeable about the menu. My husband and I will continue to go back to this place for the great happy hour and ambiance.

Took me awhile to write this review but I remember the experience vividly nonetheless. First off I was a HUGE FAN OF GASHO'S which sadly they have closed since my move back to CO. I've since been on the hunt for a new Gasho-like experience. I've tried Benihana's (sp??) and was never really a fan, it's too impersonal or commercial or something that doesn't tickle my fancy. I decided to try Miyama for my birthday dinner with nine of my relatives. I booked our reservation through Yelp and Open Table but a couple days later I needed to add a couple people to our party (from my original reservation of 7). This time I called into the restaurant directly to make the change. They confirmed my original reservation and re-confirmed my new additions and new time (7 instead of 7:30). The night of the dinner (a Saturday) we all showed up but somehow they didn't have my reservation. Luckily it was a very slow night for them so they could seat us no problem and right away. I would say BEWARE though when making reservations and call the DAY OF your dinner to make sure they have them. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff very friendly. We sat at a table for 10 but the tables don't really comfortably seat 10, I'd recommend eight or less. Our waiter was a nice guy named David who was very fun and engaging. There was mixed reviews on the food as I LOVED the Miso soup (though I am usually not a fan) while everyone else at the table didn't really like it so much. Salad was good and I had the scallops and prawns which were really, really good. The main courses everyone really enjoyed though FYI they put A TON of onions in their fried rice so if you aren't a HUGE onion fan opt for the steamed rice. Dessert was also good with different ice cream, sherbert options. All in all we had a great time and everyone left in a good mood and with full bellies. I would probably try a couple other of the hibachi places in the area just so I have something to really compare Miyama to other than a place I loved and went to for years that sadly is no longer in business. For the price it's worth a try and if you live close by check your Valu pak coupon mailings as they usually run a coupon in them. I'm giving it four stars out of five as I would go back, just with a smaller party. Oh and from the menu I agree the sushi is overpriced. We opted not to order any due to that one fact.

My boyfriend and I love sushi. Our experience was terrible. The restaurant wasn't even busy. The service was horrible, no one came over to ask for our drink order, so we had to go to the bar to get our drinks. Only once did someone come over and ask if everything was ok. The sushi didn't taste fresh either. We confronted the Owner and was met with rudeness and no apology. We will never go back again. The bartender was very kind and apologetic, which was the only nice thing we had experienced there that night.

Miyama's is a good restaurant and I would recommend it for folks that are out to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday. The food is very good and prepared Benihana's style at the table. As with other Japanese steak houses, the food prep is half of the experience. I had the filet mignon and my wife had the new york strip with shrimp. My oldest daughter had a calamari steak; my son had the shrimp and scallops. My 7 year old had the teriyaki chicken. Everyone was completely full when we left. Several in our party liked the green tea ice cream for dessert. The only knock I have on the place is that they pre-added the gratuity. I am a good tipper and I would have tipped more, but I guess I've always had a silent protest for those places that want to dictate to me what I pay them in tips...their loss. Still, a great place, with a capable staff and very good food.

Wow! I never thought I would write a bad review but wow! We got there around 8:30 PM and were the only two at a Hibachi table. So everything was fine. The chef was excellent. But MAN! The waiter kept rushing us like he wanted us out of there. Man I felt bad. I was in the middle of my meal and he went ahead and brought out the ice cream and check! He just kept coming in to see if our plates were done and if the check was ready. All throughtout I felt rushed. Screw it. I asked for a to go box, took some bites of ice cream and left. Our bill was $69. I ALWAYS tip minimum $20 when I leave there for a small bill like that. $10 for the chef and $10 for the waiter. This time I left only $10 and I should have given it to the chef personally. My last bill was $300 and I left $20 for the chef and $40 for the waiters. They've always treated me good. Maybe this guy was planning on quitting soon. I dunno but I couldn't eat my meal in peace. It was like a kid rushing his dad to hurry up so he can go to the toy store. Boo on Miyama THIS TIME. You can see I left a great review previously. I've been going there is 2008 and even the owner has brought me out a Japanese side dish they don't even have on the menu.

We usually go to Miyama for happy hour and we have never been disappointed. The staff is very attentive and we always get our drink order right away. The place is big and quiet and the kids are welcome. Food is fresh and we like their happy hour quality wine for 3.50 $.

Good teppanyaki place near Park Meadows mall. The food quality is very good - the filet mignon was quite tasty. The chefs are very entertaining. My only complaint would be the portion which felt small. But the price for a teppanyaki is reasonable. I would go back when I'm in the area.

Best happy hour in town. Great sushi; great saki; very attentive servers. And the birthday singing for special guests is very fun too.

I've been to this restaurant several times and think it is great food with a great atmosphere. While the hostesses aren't overly welcoming, the servers and chefs are very good. The food is excellent - and I've tried many different dishes there. I've gone with just my husband, and with groups as large as 20 and had a great time every time.
